Where The Blue Grass Grows

Went down yonder to Kentucky this past week for climbing and hanging with the girlfriend's friends. Got to go to a bluegrass festival up near Moorehead KY and too pictures at the festival and a few around town.

I always enjoy going to Kentucky for some reason. Going to rural Kentucky is something akin to going back in time a little bit. Things are simpler, slower, grittier and less pretentious. I always feel like an outsider there and I don't think that's a mistake. People look at you, speak to you and think of you as an outsider. That being said there is a refreshing hospitality that is usually given to you. People give you the time of day, they want to talk, they want to know if you're enjoying yourself.

Not sure whether or not I'll ever do a large series of work in Kentucky, I kind of doubt it. It seems like the sort of place where you'd really need to "be from around here" to be able to take photos that would do the place justice. Even if I don't ever get to photograph the "REAL" Kentucky, I'll enjoy these in the meantime.
